Runner's knee
Definition
The runner's knee is an irritant condition on the outside of the knee joint. People often complain of pain in the knee joint, which typically occurs on the outside and only after a certain amount of running.
Causes
The cause can be overloading or incorrect loading. The runner's knee is favoured by
muscular imbalance (shortened muscles), malposition of the leg axes (especially bow legs), foot malformations (splayfoot, hollow foot) or incorrect running shoes.
Treatment
The optimal treatment consists of a combination of the following components:
- Jumperband run while jogging
- Strength and fascial training, stretching
- Physiotherapy
- Finding the causes
